Bihar is dry, becoming the fourth state to completely ban the sale of alcohol. But will it help the state develop faster?

It may not, unless CM Nitish Kumar & his team execute well on their ‘7 Commitments’.

The commitments are surprisingly ambitious & clear. Nitish Kumar has already delivered on one – 35% reservation for women in government jobs – just a few months after he took over.

But his other commitments, which include piped drinking water, electricity & toilets for all homes, are not easy.

Delivering piped drinking water alone will be a significant challenge. Bihar’s State Water Policy, drafted in 2010, has been gathering dust, ignored till now. Making good on this commitment in the next 3-4 years requires the right policy, people, institutions, relationships with neighboring states & centre, and of course flawless execution.

The CM seems to be focussed on his commitments and a man to watch.
